Chile – Evaluation about the Stimulation of Rainfall Program

Study conducted by the National Irrigation Commission, Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences Beijing and La SEREMI of agriculture. It is an evaluation of the cloud seeding projects carried out in 2012 in the regions of Atacama, Coquimbo, Valparaíso and O’Higgins. The projects were carried out in aerial form in the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo, and in terrestrial form by the company Hidromet in the regions of Valparaíso and O’Higgins. Álvaro Martínez, currently General Manager of METTECH SPA, directed the design, construction and operation of the Silver Iodide Terrestrial Generator network. The evaluation was performed based on the comparison with the Metropolitan region. In the regions of Atacama and Coquimbo, no results were found, and in the regions of Valparaíso and O’Higgins promising results were obtained, but the research is not conclusive due to the lack of meteorological information and due to the short execution time of the project.
