Weather Modification Association (WMA) Position Statement on the Enviromental Impact of using Silver Iodide as a Cloud Seeding Agent

Silver Iodide Toxicity Study in the Environment, conducted by the Weather Modification Association (WMA), which collects information from several studies and rules out the health or environmental risk that cloud seeding programs might cause. This is mainly due to the very low amounts of water used and the insolubility of Silver Iodide.
Only small amounts of seed material are released from individual cloud seeding generators, typically in the range of 5-25 grams of silver iodide per hour from soil generators and up to a few kilograms per hour from aircraft
The reason that such small quantities can be used is that the AgI dispensing systems are producing up to 10 high 15 nuclei per gram of AgI. This means small amounts of AgI seed material can produce huge amounts of ice crystal seeds that can create ice crystals, which can form snowflakes.
