Glaciers conservation
There are thousands of continental glaciers that are used to provide fresh water for consumption by the population, which, as a consequence of global warming, are melting at an accelerated rate.
Chile began the first steps to study and design a technique that would reduce the rates of melting and perhaps in some cases to stop it, using the principle of artificially increasing the snow cover coating in each winter season. Covering it with an extra layer of snow would slow the melting of the glacier by prolonging its useful life.
The challenge is to complete the design of the equipment to perform a practical pilot application of this technology, accompanied by studies and measurements that demonstrate its effectiveness.
